Lighting to most of us is a plain necessity, however when properly planned, can be so much more.

  • Lighting can be beautiful and greatly improve the entire look or appearance of your homes, buildings and gardens.

  • Each room or area needs to be established to determine how much and what type of lighting should be installed to provide the correct light levels.

  • The height of the ceilings need to be taken into account for overhead lighting so the light levels required at floor level can be properly calculated.

  • Most rooms in our homes or offices may serve numerous purposes needing very different light levels at different times, its advisable to have multiple lights that can be controlled individually or install dimmers that allow control of light levels.

  • Not all lights are dimmable and different lights may require different types of dimmers to function properly, this requires specialised knowledge, particularly with the new LED lights.

  • Not all lights are the same, this again is particularly true with the new LED lights. The older incandescent or halogen lights have been around for many years and we have all become quite familiar with them. However LED lighting is a fairly new industry and it takes time for the relevant authorities to set these standards and regulations and then enforce them.

  • LED lights are in fact an electronic device that emit light, one cannot, compare the wattage of two different LEDs as a reliable indicator of how much and what quality of light they will produce, there are many other factors that need to be taken into account.
